It has become home to some of the amazing mega structures such as the world’s tallest building, the world’s tallest hotel, the world’s largest shopping mall by size and the wondrous Palm and world islands, Below are some of the wonders of Dubai you need to know about.
1. Burj al Arab
It’s the only 7 star hotel on earth and it features a sky view bar, an underwater restaurant and a outdoor tennis court located at its top floor. As one of the most iconic symbols of UAE, it has become the most photographed building in the world.
It was designed to look like the dhow of an Arab ship as it rises over the Arabian gulf. The building reaches a height of 321 meters and during the night, it is usually illuminated with choreographed color sculptures of fire and water.
2. The Palm Trilogy Islands
They came to be known as the largest artificial islands in the world. It was one of the most ambitious projects for H.H.Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Almaktoom Ruler of Dubai . Its unique shape of a palm tree has added 250 kilometers to the Dubai shoreline. Today, the Palm islands are considered as the 8th wonder of the world. The islands comprises of the Palm Jebel Ali, the Palm Deira and Palm Jumeirah.
They house luxury hotels, exclusive beach side homes, water theme parks, leisure centers and marinas among other.
3. The Burj Khalifa
Rising to an astonishing height of 828 meters, Great buildings, calling the names of the great؛people, the Burj Khalifa currently holds the title of being the tallest building and manmade structure in the world. The building houses the highest mosque in the world at the 158 floor, it houses the world highest swimming pool at the 76th floor and the world’s highest viewing platform at the 124th floor.
It is shaped like a pyramid and houses over 900 luxury apartments, office suites and the luxurious Armani hotel.
4. Dubai Marina
It is the largest artificial marina in the world and has a length of 3 km. The marina waterfront acts as home to luxury yachts, a 7 kilometer pedestrian walkway, outdoor cafes, bars and restaurants alike. The marina, as a mega structure project, was developed with the intention of providing a public space that is capable of holding a population of 12,000 people in villas and residential towers.
5. Dubai mall
As the world’s largest shopping mall by size, it houses 1200 retail stores, department stores, 1600 food outlets and a large entertainment area. The mall attracts more than 750,000 visitors each week. A 250 room luxury hotel, a large aquarium, an underwater zoo with the largest viewing panel are found in the mall.
6. Infinity tower
The building holds the title of the tallest high rise building with a 90 degree twist. The 90 degree twist spirals from the base to the crown of the building. It is 80 storeys’s high and is surrounded by dynamic waterfront views. What makes the building even more amazing, is the lack of a single structural pillar.
7. The Dubai fountain
Holding the title of the largest dancing fountain on Earth, the fountain is illuminated with 6600 lights and 25 color projectors which help to create a visual spectrum of 1000 abstract attractions. The lights can be seen from 20 miles away and is also visible from the outer space. It is 275 meters long and can spray 83,000 liters of waters which can be shot as high as 152 meters in sync to classical Arabic and other world music.
8. Jumeirah hotel
It has a wave like design and is known to be an architectural wonder in the world. The 5 star hotel stands at 93 meters high and 275 meters long. It is a 26 storey building that is curved both in plan and elevation. There are 20 restaurants, bars, a private beach and offers unlimited access to the wild wadi water park. Since it is located near the sail shaped Burj Al Arab, the combination helps to mimic a sail navigating a wave.
9. Ski Dubai
This is a 22,500 square meter indoor ski resort that provides locals and tourists an opportunity to experience real snow in a country that is surrounded by a desert. It is located in the Emirates mall and features an 85 meter high indoor mountain that has 5 runs with different heights and gradient. There is a 400 meter long run with a 60 meter fall. It is also home to the largest indoor snow park on Earth at a size of 3000 square meters.
10. Atlantis the palm hotel and resort
The resort houses 2 underwater suites with floor to ceiling views into a lagoon that houses 65,000 marine animals. Other Dubai attractions include the aqua venture water park, the lost chambers, the ambassador lagoon and the dolphin bay. Other features include 1500 guest rooms and a 1.4 km white beach.
11. Dubai Aquarium and underwater zoo
It is located in the middle of the Dubai mall and it holds the title of the largest suspended aquarium in the world. It provides unique views to tourists of the 33, 000 submarine animals which can be viewed behind the largest acrylic viewing panel in the world. Tourists have the opportunity of travelling through the 48 meter long aquarium tunnel. Other leisure activities offered include glass bottom boat rides, shark dives and cage snorkeling.
12. Princess Tower
Since 2012, the Princess tower has been recognized by the Guinness world records as the tallest residential building in the world. Located near the Dubai marina, it stands at a height of 414 meters and the 101 storey building houses 763 luxury apartments and is one of the most expensive properties in Dubai.
13. JW Marriot Marquis Hotel
As the tallest hotel in the world, the 72 storey building stands at 355 meters and is spread across two iconic towers. The buildings has 14 food and beverage outlets, rooftop bars, business center, a 3700 square meter spa and health club.
Other features include retail outlets, swimming pool and gymnasium.
14. Dubai Miracle garden
As the largest natural flower garden on Earth, the Dubai miracle garden is located in the middle of the desert. It is 72,000 square meters and has more than 45 million flowers which have been designed into hearts, stars, igloos, pyramids, arc shaped walkways and vintage cars. The flowers usually change each season.
The garden has entered into the Guinness book of records as the world’s biggest flower clock.
15. The world islands
This is a collection of 300 artificial islands which have been constructed to appear as continents and the world itself. It is located 4 kilometers from the coast of Dubai and it was developed using tons of sand, rock and the entire project covers an area of 6 by 9 kilometers.
Each of the 300 islands was made to be sold to wealthy individuals from around the world. The amazing thing is that the world islands are visible from outer space through a naked eye.
16. Hydropolis – first underwater luxury resort
It holds the title of the first underwater luxury resort in the world and it is located 66 feet below Arabian gulf surface. It is made of reinforced concrete and steel, with plexiglass walls and bubble shaped dome ceilings. This will offer tourists a view of the fish and other sea creatures around the Arabian gulf.
The hydropolis has 220 guest suites and is located near the Jumeira beach hotel.
17.Dubai Land
This theme park is twice the size of Walt Disney world in Orlando, Florida. It has an area of 107 square miles and will host 45 mega projects and 200 sub projects. It is divided into 6 zones namely attractions and experience world, sports and outdoor world, eco tourism world, themed leisure and vacation world, retail and entertainment world and downtown.
The theme park may open before the year 2020.
18. Dubai sports city
Known as the world’s first integrated purpose built sports city, the stadium sits on 50 million square feet of mixed use development. It will have the following sports complexes: DSC multi purpose stadium which will be a 60,000 seat outdoor and will be used for athletics, cricket and football. There will be the cricket stadium which will have a capacity of 25,000 seats and the indoor arena, with 10000 seats will be home to basketball, volleyball, handball and badminton among others. It is owned by Dubai properties and was opened on 30th June 2014.
19. Dynamic Tower
Known also as the Da Vinci tower, the wind powered rotating skyscraper will rise to 80 floors and sits on an area measuring 420 square meters. It was designed by David Fisher and the tower floors are meant to rotate independently. The floor will each rotate to a maximum of 6 meters per minute or 90 minutes in one full rotation. Each floor will be fabricated at the factory, shipped to the construction site and allow the engineers to complete building it in 22 months.
The rotating skyscraper will be wind and solar powered and will be able to generate 1,200,000 kilowatts hours of energy.
20. Water discus hotel
It will be known as the world’s largest underwater hotel and features two discuses, one above the water and another below. The hotel will offers guests a view of the marine animals in their natural habitat while they are either dining or sleeping or holding conferences. The lower discus will rest 33 feet below the surface of the ocean. It will have 21 rooms all with incredible views and will offer guests 11,000 square feet of living space both above and below the water.
The top discus will host hotels, restaurants, helipad and bars while visitor will access the lower discus via glass walled tunnels to their rooms.
